Derek Wallenstein, MS, LMSW (MN & ND)

Derek Wallenstein earned his Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Dakota in 2016. He is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and is licensed to practice in both Minnesota and North Dakota.

During his graduate internship, Derek worked with individuals released from the South Dakota State Penitentiary, focusing especially on supporting fathers as they reintegrated into their families and communities. His work centered on developing life skills, social skills, and strengthening family connections.

Prior to joining Solutions, Derek served as a CTSS provider and worked as a Case Manager intern at Lutheran Social Services within the fatherhood program. He has received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), and he specializes in ABA-based interventions.

Derek especially enjoys working with children and finds it meaningful to help them grow and develop new skills over time. He values being part of their progress and takes pride in contributing to the well‑being of the next generation. His therapeutic approach is grounded in respect, caring, empathy, kindness, and hard work—qualities he strives to bring into every interaction and every session.
