DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)

A comprehensive treatment approach for Adults and Adolescents.

DBT is a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach for working with individuals who have difficulties regulating their emotions and behaviors. It is a comprehensive treatment program that focuses on teaching skills in the following areas: Core Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance.

DBT SERVICES OFFERED

  • Individual therapy – adult and adolescent
  • Adult skills group
  • Adult group adjusted for learning difficulties
  • Adolescent female group which includes parental involvement

MAKING REFERRALS FOR DBT SERVICES
Appropriate referrals may have:

  • Severe difficulties in interpersonal relationships
  • Problems with impulsivity
  • Frequent mood instability
  • Current or past self-injurious behaviors
  • Disturbances with self-image

Please call our office at 218-287-4338 to schedule a screening appointment with one of our DBT clinicians. The skills groups are filled on a consistent basis and an estimated start date will be provided at the time of screening. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

 
DBT BASIC ASSUMPTIONS

  • DBT is a proven treatment for people who have difficulties controlling their emotions and behaviors.
  • DBT focuses on reducing problematic behavior by increasing skillful behavior.
  • DBT assists people in learning how to better understand and value themselves and other people.
  • No one fails DBT and people ware perceived as doing the best that they can.
  • The overarching purpose of DBT is for people to have a life worth living.
  • DBT is most effective with the combination of individual therapy and participation in a skill group.
