CO-PARENTING THERAPY

Divorce and separation of parents has a profound impact on many children. Cooperation and willing negotiation between parent has proven to be the most important factor in helping children adjust to and cope with divorce or separation

SOLUTIONS is committed to helping parents learn to successfully co-parent their child(ren). Co-Parenting therapy involves the teaching of effective co-parenting strategies, designed in the best interest of the child(ren) following separation or divorce. Co-Parenting therapy is different from mediation in that the focus is on learning to resolve conflict independently, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for on-going litigation or mediation.

Appropriate candidates for the work are parents, who, in the best interest of their children, are prepared to.

  • Make difficult changes in their own behavior
  • Accept they cannot change the other parent's behavior
  • "Let go" of the past conflicts with the other parent
  • Accept that the situation may not always feel fair

A TEAM APPROACH
Each parent is initially assigned a therapist to assist in this process. Therapists and parents then work together in devising the most effective, least conflictual co-parenting style to enhance the adjustment and overall well-being of the child(ren).

CO-PARENTING THERAPY GROUND RULES

  • The child is always the focus. Let your language reflect this.
  • Parents are expected to develop an understanding of their own behaviors and the impact on the child.
  • The goal is NOT to determine who is a better parent, but to establish an effective co-parenting strategy.
  • Parents should not expect to change the other parent.
  • Children are most impacted by the degree of conflict between parents. The expectation is that both parents commit to working hard in minimizing that conflict.
  • Understanding that neither parent may feel agreement is completely fair or ideal.
  • Further mental health evaluation may be required.
  • Lack of cooperation with the rules may result in service termination.

SERVICE FEES
A financial agreement will be drafted for both parents, which outlines the responsibilities for each. A retainer will be required before scheduling the first session. Appointments must be scheduled during daytime business hours.

Accounts must be kept up to date. In addition to the therapy sessions, time spent in collateral activities such as telephone contacts, meetings or review of records will be billed.

Health insurance may be utilized for therapy sessions under certain circumstances. SOLUTIONS, Inc., is a provider for most health insurance companies.
